EAST CHICAGO COUNCILMAN WAS CHARGED WITH MURDER WAS ALLOWED TO STAY IN OFFICE
Now this one is interesting! An East Chicago Councilman who had been charged for murder and was awaiting trial in an Indiana jail was allowed to keep his seat on the City Council and more infuriating he was still getting his $42,000 a year salary. this went on for months until they finally found a lega way to remove him from office. There by-laws stated that you could only fire someone who was convicted of a serious crime. So, because he had only been charged they could not legally remove hin from office.
After reading about this older case some more I actually think he possibly could have been indicted on a RICCO charge. Or in the least conspiracy to commit felonies. But, I assume they did not have enough evidence for this. He should have also been charged with using his office in the Project to do all of the illegal things he and his cronies were doing. Some of his constituents rallied around him too.
However, Robert Battle was charged with murdering a Reimundo Camarillo jr. because he suspected him of trying to set him up for the cops. And he was right for thinking this. Battle claimed the shooting was in self defense. The Prosecutor had been contemplating on giving him a Death Sentence but eventually decided against this. Battle said the vitim had been coming at him with a knife and he really feared for his life. BUT, there was no knife ever found at the scene and he shot the guy in the back. So, he should have thought of a better lie to tell. If he suspected he was working with police how did he think he was possibly going to get away with murdering him for it?
You know this guy behaved as the "cock of the walk" when he was out politicking, all the while he was buying and selling drugs to some of those same constituents who voted him into office. Also letting the majority of his supporters down by using abusing their support. This alone is a morally corrupt thing to do. But, as we know with these type of men who use and abuse their authority they do not feel like they did anything wrong at all. And I love when they are finally caught.
